• What it is.

  When the app is out, a long string of letters and numbers will sit above: a fingerprint of the file, worked out by a standard formula called SHA-256. Change a single byte of the file and the fingerprint changes completely. So if the fingerprint of the file on your phone matches the one on this page, you have exactly the file we built, byte for byte.

• How to check it.

  You don't need anything special. On a Windows PC, open a Command Prompt in the folder with the file and type certutil -hashfile nolie-wifi.apk SHA256. On a Mac or Linux, open a Terminal in that folder and type shasum -a 256 nolie-wifi.apk. On the phone itself, a free file manager with a "checksum" or "hash" option will do the same. Compare what it prints with the fingerprint on this page. There will be a Copy button so you can paste it next to the result rather than reading it.

• If it doesn't match.

  Don't install it. Delete the file, download again from this page, and check again. A mismatch usually means a download that stopped early. If it still doesn't match, email taylorjcwbray565@gmail.com and we'll look.

• What it says.

  One or two things, depending on the phone. When the file lands, the browser may say "This type of file can harm your device". When you open it, Android may say the app you opened it with isn't allowed to install unknown apps, and offer a switch marked "Allow from this source". The exact wording varies.

• Why it appears.

  Android says this about every app file that doesn't arrive through the Play Store. It isn't looking at what's in the file. It's looking at where the file came from. We aren't on the Play Store yet, so it came from here.

• Why it's fine.

  The file is signed by us, and the SHA-256 above lets you check it hasn't been altered on the way. Play Protect may offer to scan it. Let it. That's its job.

   Tap Download on this page.

   Once it's live. Your phone saves nolie-wifi.apk, usually to Downloads. If the browser asks whether to keep the file, keep it.

   Open the file.

   Tap the download notification, or find nolie-wifi.apk in your Files app.

   Allow this source.

   Android says the app you opened it with isn't allowed to install unknown apps. Tap Settings, switch on "Allow from this source", then go back. You can switch it off again afterwards.

   Tap Install.

   It takes a few seconds. If Play Protect offers to scan the app, let it.

   Open the app.

   It asks for location, once. Choose "While using the app". On Android 13 or later it also asks for nearby devices. Why it asks is just below. Then walk into the bad room.

• Android 10 or later.

  That's the oldest version the app is built for. Older phones won't install it.

• The location permission.

  Android only shows Wi-Fi signal and nearby networks to apps that hold the location permission, because a list of nearby networks can give away where you are. That's Android's rule, not ours. The app never reads GPS and has no other use for it. The phone's own location switch also has to be on while you check, for the same reason. On Android 13 or later there's a second prompt, for nearby devices, that does the same job.

• Nothing leaves the phone.

  Your rooms, readings and history stay on the device. The one exception is the speed test, which is optional and asks first. It sends a bag of zeros to a speed-test server and pulls some back, about 7 MB per room, to see what the room actually delivers. Say no and everything still works. You can change your mind in Settings.

   14 September 2026. Release candidate, in testing.

   Walk the house, hold still for eight seconds per room, get a status word and a plain sentence for each. Rooms ranked best to worst.

   Each room's diagnosis: distance and walls, the slow band, or a crowded channel, with fixes listed easiest first and their real effort and cost.

   The air check: who you share your channel with and whether a quieter one exists, with a walkthrough of the router's settings page.

   The optional speed test runs inside the same eight seconds, on by default, and can be switched off in Settings. It lets the app tell interference from distance.

   Whole-home verdict, history and re-checks are built and currently free; the £4.99 unlock is not switched on in this build.

   Signed with our release key. Debug tools removed. Not yet released; the download appears here when it is.
